It was only a pity for the French, who had to wait and see, because the earth took a piece of the mainland and poof, the island in the bathtub called the Mediterranean was finished. We made our way there via Grenoble and the Verdon Gorge. If you need about a week for this distance, you will be able to soak up this fabulous environment just as enjoyably. Especially now in spring – yes, in Germany you don’t even notice it when it snows – the life and the colors explode in such a way that it makes you almost dizzy. In one of the romantic, historic mountain villages, we buy local supplies that are not wrapped in plastic and pick up two hitchhikers who want to get to the next bus station in the neighboring village. During the journey, they started to feel a little queasy. I told them that they would not be leaving the vehicle in the neighboring village alive. They were very shocked. They had told us that they were from Grenoble. So of course it was a point of honor for Petra and me to drive them home, as this city was on our route anyway. I had a lot of fun seeing their faces when I told them that they wouldn’t leave Max alive until they reached Grenoble. It’s funny what a difference a little word can make in our minds. It’s basically like everywhere else, dreamlike. If, like us, you are chosen to hike through the mountains and gorges in imperial weather, to experience the ultimate, pure nature, then you realize that paradise is not in heaven. Everything is green, the birdlife cares for its offspring and offers aerial acrobatics as only birds can. I could go on raving for hours. I’ll keep it short: go there in spring.
